Ottobock, world leader in prostheses, will become Official Supplier of the European Para Championships 2023. The partnership starts immediately and runs until the end of the tournament. The multi-sport event will take place in Rotterdam next summer from 8 to 20 August.
Ottobock has supported sport for people with physical disabilities for more than three decades and is proud to continue this as a partner of the international paralympic movement. "We are delighted to be given this opportunity to support the European Para Championships. As a longstanding official partner of the Paralympic Games, this type of involvement in para sports is part of our DNA. The European Para Championships can make a huge contribution to the para sports movement and can help give it a much bigger platform in Europe", says Peter Franzel, Head of Global Events, Exhibitions & Sports at Ottobock.
Jeroen Straathof, tournament director of the European Para Championships, is very pleased with Ottobock's arrival: "It is fantastic that Ottobock is partnering with us and that they are bringing their Technical Repair Service Centre to Rotterdam. This will be a huge added value for the athletes. Ottobock will take care of all technical aspects so that the athletes can fully concentrate on their performance and the competitions."
Ottobock is bringing its Technical Repair Service Centre to Rotterdam, where participating athletes can be helped directly with technical problems on their orthoses, prosthetics and wheelchairs. Athletes at Paralympic sporting events often use technical devices that are exposed to extreme stress during their competitions. Wheelchairs in particular are often damaged during intensive contact sports. Ottobock's technical service team will use their service to ensure that athletes can focus primarily on their sport.
The European Para Championships is a unique event, where ten different Para sports will come together in one big event. Para cycling, Para archery, Para badminton, Wheelchair tennis, Boccia, Goalball, Wheelchair basketball, Para judo, Shooting para sport and Para taekwondo will compete in the European Championships. The multisport event not only offers the chance for athletes to compete for gold medals, but also to gain qualification points or direct qualification for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
The finals of a number of sports will take place on 'city centercourts' in the heart of Rotterdam, literally bringing Paralympic sport to the city and its people. In addition, Rotterdam Ahoy is the 'main hub' of the multi-sport tournament.
